IRAP (interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein) Therapy

Older Pet's Still Love To Play

Pinehurst Animal Hospital and Dental Clinic is proud to offer IRAP, a natural Drug-Free treatment for joint pain and arthritis.
We are excited to introduce the latest in regenerative medicine treatment called IRAP. It is an Autologous Conditioned Serum (ACS) and the most advanced treatment available for acute and chronic pain in dogs. It is a centrifuged solution of your own dog's blood that provides all the important healing factors in a super concentrated joint injection.
Studies have demonstrated pain relief for up to one year with just one treatment although many will need repeated injections during the year. This natural, steroid-free treatment avoids any unwanted side-effects associated with traditional steroid joint injections. There is no drug withholding times and there is a very quick recovery from the injection process.
IRAP is the newest regenerative medicine product used to treat joint inflammation and arthritis. IRAP (Interleukin 1 Receptor Antagonist Protein) is a natural anti-inflammatory protein released by white blood cells (leukocytes) at the site of injury to combat the badly degrading IL-1 protein. IRAP protein is collected from your dog's blood by processing the white cells using a proprietary centrifuge method. IRAP counteracts inflammation by blocking the inflammatory protein interleukin-1 (IL-1) within joints. If unblocked, IL-1 leads to pain and damage.

IRAP Injections will reduce pain associated with arthritis and deliver naturally occurring anti-inflammatory proteins. IRAP is capable of slowing cartilage degradation and improving mobility.

Benefits of using IRAP:
● Pain relief for up to one year

● Chronic joint disease, often when Hyaluronic Acid and/or corticosteroids do not show satisfactory results

● Post-surgical treatment after joint surgery
● Natural, holistic, drug-free therapy
● Slows cartilage degradation
● Treats lameness, joint swelling and tendon inflammation
● Eliminates risks associated with steroid therapies
● Improves mobility

 Frequently Asked Questions About IRAP
What is IRAP?
IRAP is a joint injection, made from your dogs' own blood. It provides anti-inflammatory effects and pain control.

How long does IRAP last?
Lameness is often improved for a year after a single IRAP injection, but the effect may be shorter or longer depending on the severity of the animal's joint disease. 4-6 months average benefit per an injection.

How does IRAP work?
IRAP concentrates the blood’s natural anti-inflammatory proteins. When this highly concentrated solution is injected into a joint, it binds and stops the inflammatory proteins that are causing pain and cartilage destruction.

Are there risks?
There is a risk any time a joint is injected with any substance. Inflammation or infection of the joint, while very rare, can occur with any injectable substance. We make every effort to ensure sterility of the injection, and often administer an anti-inflammatory at the time of injection.

Are there side effects?
IRAP is very safe when administered into a joint. Unlike steroid injection, there are no known long-term risks of IRAP injections. It is also safe to use in joints that have previously been injected with steroids.

How much does IRAP cost?
Costs may vary based on affected joint and amount of IRAP used, so please call or email for a specific estimate!
